On the 12th of january we celebrated an Evensong in the basilica of Saint Nicholas in Amsterdam and we were together for our New Years's reception in the adjacent hotel. It was again a beautiful event, in which many people took part. A nice start of the new year. Our world however is not so nice and calm. How can we build a "civilisation of love"?

Zaterdag 23 december vond ’s avonds om 20.00 uur onder grote belangstelling "A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" plaats, een traditie die al enkele tientallen jaren in de kathedraal in ere wordt gehouden: negen lezingen, afgewisseld door meerstemmige zang en samenzang bereiden voor op het kerstfeest.

Aartsbisschop Paul Gallagher had zaterdagavond 1 juli een ontmoeting met enkele vertegenwoordigers van bisdom en van stichtingen binnen het bisdom Haarlem-Amsterdam. The 2nd sunday of Easter is Mercy-Sunday, which is celebrated in a special way in the shrine of Heiloo (where bishop Jozef Punt celebrated the dutch Divine Mercy feast) and in the cathedral church in Haarlem where the English spoken Divine Mercy Feast was celebrated. A beautiful day about God's mercy that we encounter in a special way in the sacrament of penance, confession. Here is why you should not hesitate to go to confession.

On sunday the 24th of april we celebrated the Divine Mercy Feast in our cathedral with the English speaking community. It was organised by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland and the Filippino-English community of Laren, but there were faithful from all parts of the country. It was nice to celebrate this beautiful occasion again with so many people!

Een kathedraal is nooit helemaal af. Dankzij goede gevers komt er een kunstwerk boven het centrale toegansportaal en de zijdeuren van "de koepelkathedraal". Er is goed nagedacht wat voor thema voor deze mozaïeken zou passen binnen het geheel van de iconografische opzet van de Sint Bavo. In de Kathedraal in Haarlem is van 28 augustus t/m 3 april 2022 de thematentoonstelling Geloof in Geluk te zien. Die gaat over het zoeken, delen en verbeelden van geluk. Met dit nieuwe initiatief wil de Kathedraal nadrukkelijker naar buiten treden en mensen uitnodigen om na te denken over wat hen bezighoudt.

Het afgelopen weekend is de Britse prime minister Boris Johnson getrouwd in de Rooms Katholieke Westminster Cathedral. Van Johnson is bekend dat hij twee eerdere huwelijken achter de rug heeft. Hoe kon hij dan voor de katholieke kerk trouwen, die toch geen echtscheiding aanvaardt? Of kreeg hij soms een privilege wat aan anderen niet gegeven wordt?

In the cathedral church in Haarlem a Divine Mercy feast was celebrated, which still can be watched on 'Kathedraal TV', organized by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland. After half an Hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament the Pontifical holy Mass started, during which I delivered the sermon you find here below.

In het jubileum jaar van onze bevrijding zou ik met het kathedrale koor naar New York en Washington zijn gegaan voor een hommage aan onze bevrijders in een prachtig concert en in een feestelijke Heilige Mis in Saint Patrick's cathedral. Maar, helaas, Corona verhinderde ook dit, maar het kathedrale koor heeft nu een prachtig gefilmde kerstgroet uitgebracht aan de veteranen en om 75 jaar vrijheid niet zomaar voorbij te laten gaan.

On the Solemnity of the most holy Trinity I celebrated an English Mass for El Shaddai community. It was their last celebration in the cathedral church, where they moved to so that they could have live streamed Masses. Now they are moving back to Amsterdam. At the beginning of the homily I expressed my gratitude for the many good wishes conveyed at the occasion of my start as a bishop of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.

The gospel of the 6th Sunday of Easter is about love and the commandments of the Lord. In the cathedral church I celebrated holy Mass in English, prepared by El Shaddai community. Fr. Ruben Torres, spiritual leader of the community concelebrated.

On sunday the 3^rd of May we had an English live-stream Mass from our cathedral church, prepared by El Shaddai community (Amsterdam chapter). One of the seminarians, Juan Ignacio, told us how the Lord accompanied him and called him to the priesthood.

Zondag beloken pasen, Feest van de Goddelijke Barmhartigheid, hebben we in de kathedraal een speciale internationale viering gehouden. De priesters van de Poolse parochie en de Spaanse parochie waren bij de Eucharistieviering, pastoor Ruben Torres heeft de aanbidding geleid die daaraan vooraf ging. We celebrate the Divine Mercy feast on the second sunday of Easter, this year on the 28th of april. In the cathedral church this feast was organized by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland together with the Filippino Catholic Community in The Hague. Before the holy Mass started, the image of Divine Mercy, colocated in one of the lateral chapels of the Cathedral church, was blessed. We prayed for the victims of the attacks in Sri lanka. Why God permitted this?

The 2^nd Sunday of Easter was named Sunday of the Divine Mercy by saint pope John Paul II. We celebrated a beautiful Divine mercy-feast in the Cathedral basilica of St. Bavo in Haarlem, organised by the Divine Mercy Apostolate and attended by many English speaking Faithful

Van 21 t/m 23 april is de kathedrale basiliek van Sint Bavo met meer dan 50.000 bloemen versierd. Op het moment dat ik dit schrijf is meesterbinder Ingeborg Kemperman met het Wellantcollege uit Rijnsburg druk bezig de nieuwe Bavo geur en kleur te geven. Vrijdag om 13.00 uur hoop ik de Pontificale Mis te vieren waarvoor alle parochies zijn uitgenodigd.

Op vrijdag 31 maart werd in de kathedrale basiliek van Sint Bavo de tentoonstelling ‘Ridder en mysticus’ geopend, gewijd aan Han Bijvoet en zijn werk. En er is meer te doen in de Bavo. zoals het passieconcert van komende zondag 2 april en ‘De nieuwe Bavo bloeit’ van 21 t/m 23 april. Maar wie was Han Bijvoet eigenlijk?

In de kerk van Overveen - één van de BOAZ parochies: Bloemendaal, Overveen, Aerdenhout en Zandvoort - werd zondag 12 februari om 17.00 uur een Evensong gehouden, door de Martinuscantorij uit Zwaag onder leiding van choirmaster Paul Waerts met een onverwacht grote opkomst: de kerk was voor driekwart gevuld.

On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit was pouring out His gifts in Amsterdam as well. 22 candidates of All Saints parish received the sacrament of Confirmation during a joyful celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

This year the Divine Mercy feast was celebrated in English in the cathedral basilica of Saint Bavo in Haarlem, while a dutch Divine mercy celebration with bishop Punt was held in the shrine of Heiloo.

Er waren 650 boekjes voorbereid voor het Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in de kathedraal, een viering van negen schriftlezingen afgewisseld met kerstzang van de Bavocantorij en van koor met volk, maar er kwamen meer dan 800 mensen naar de sfeervolle kerstbijeenkomst toe in de fraai gerestaureerde kathedraal.

In de Vredeskerk in Amsterdam (O.L. Vrouw, Koningin van de vrede) vierde de Nederlands-Filippijnse gemeenschap El Shaddai haar meerderjarigheid met een dag van ontmoeting en gebed onder het motto: “Vandaag is dit huis heil ten deel gevallen” (Lc. 19,9).

Op 5 en 6 november vond op De Tiltenberg een tweedaagse conferentie over liturgie en gewijde ruimte plaats, in de Engelse taal: "Liturgy and sacred space. Architecture for Divine Worship in the 21st Century". Verschillende bekende sprekers waren aanwezig om het thema toe te lichten - voor een belangrijk deel zijn zij als docent verbonden aan de Master-studie "Architectuur, gewijde kunst en liturgie" van de Europese universiteit in Rome. Een van die docenten is Moeder Anima Christi, die tijdens de conferentie over "the language of beauty" sprak.
