The 2nd sunday of Easter is Mercy-Sunday, which is celebrated in a special way in the shrine of Heiloo (where bishop Jozef Punt celebrated the dutch Divine Mercy feast) and in the cathedral church in Haarlem where the English spoken Divine Mercy Feast was celebrated. A beautiful day about God's mercy that we encounter in a special way in the sacrament of penance, confession. Here is why you should not hesitate to go to confession.

On sunday the 24th of april we celebrated the Divine Mercy Feast in our cathedral with the English speaking community. It was organised by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland and the Filippino-English community of Laren, but there were faithful from all parts of the country. It was nice to celebrate this beautiful occasion again with so many people!

In the cathedral church in Haarlem a Divine Mercy feast was celebrated, which still can be watched on 'Kathedraal TV', organized by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland. After half an Hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament the Pontifical holy Mass started, during which I delivered the sermon you find here below.

Zondag beloken pasen, Feest van de Goddelijke Barmhartigheid, hebben we in de kathedraal een speciale internationale viering gehouden. Zondag na Pasen, Beloken Pasen, is het Feest van de Goddelijke Barmhartigheid. Dat wordt gevierd in de Kathedraal en in Heiloo. Omdat biechten en communiceren nu moeilijk is, kan de aflaat van die dag op andere wijze verkregen worden. We smeken Gods barmhartigheid op die dag om een spoedig einde van de Corona-pandemie. We celebrate the Divine Mercy feast on the second sunday of Easter, this year on the 28th of april. In the cathedral church this feast was organized by the Divine Mercy Apostolate Holland together with the Filippino Catholic Community in The Hague. Before the holy Mass started, the image of Divine Mercy, colocated in one of the lateral chapels of the Cathedral church, was blessed. We prayed for the victims of the attacks in Sri lanka. Why God permitted this?

This year the Divine Mercy feast was celebrated in English in the cathedral basilica of Saint Bavo in Haarlem, while a dutch Divine mercy celebration with bishop Punt was held in the shrine of Heiloo.

In Rome werd op de avond voor Barm­har­tig­heids­zondag het komende buiten­gewoon Heilig Jaar van de Barm­har­tig­heid offi­cieel aange­kondigd door paus Franciscus. In het bisdom Haarlem-Amsterdam werden in Heiloo en in Nieuw-Vennep speciale vieringen gehouden voor Barm­har­tig­heids­zondag, in Heiloo met mgr. Jozef Punt, in Nieuw-Vennep was ik aanwezig.

In een volle Sint Joseph kerk in Zaandam heb ik de Zondag van de Goddelijke Barm­hartig­heid mogen vieren met de Filip­pijnse gemeen­schap en heel wat Neder­landers. De viering begon rond 13.00 uur met uit­stel­ling en biecht­gelegen­heid, waarvan zeer velen gebruikt maakten. Natuurlijk werd bijzonder de nieuwe heilige paus Johannes Paulus II herdacht.

Beloken Pasen is sinds het jaar 2000 zondag van de barm­hartig­heid en op vele plaatsen komen gelovigen bijeen om deze dag bijzonder te vieren, zich Gods barm­hartig­heid meer en dieper bewust te worden en die af te smeken voor Kerk en wereld en voor alle persoon­lijke en gezins-intenties.
